Selon le rapport d'une enquête menée par CyberNews, un lot de 101 applications diffusées sur le Play Store et validées par Google auraient tendance à récupérer les données des utilisateurs sans leur consentement.
Ce lot de 101 applications provient d'un même groupe de 27 développeurs basé au Vietnam et elles représentent pas moins de 69 millions d'installations sur des appareils Android. Les applications en question demandent des permissions d'accès poussées sur les appareils et se chargent ensuite de récupérer des données personnelles pour les renvoyer vers des serveurs distants. Les données ciblées sont les photos, vidéos, localisation et parfois conversations. L'objectif est de proposer ensuite de la publicité ciblée chez la victime avec à la clé des ralentissements et même parfois le blocage du smartphone.
