Bonjour,In the existing operators’ network, the Gateway is deployed as a centralized network element. The path of user plane is long, and the packet latency is high. It makes the user experience not so good. To solve this problem, the C/U separation solution has been proposed by 3GPP. ZTE has proposed its own commercial solution based on 3GPP. ZTE C/U separation solution separates GW-C plane from GW-U plane. Both are deployed independently. The GW-C plane can be deployed in central sites. GW-U can be deployed as demand in several distributed sites. The GW-U plane is a light weight deployment network element and it's easy to extend the GW-U plane to distributed sites. Generally, the GW-U plane is deployed in the data center near the end users.
5G Core adopts the natural C/U separation architecture at the beginning of design. The 5GC defined by 3GPP is based on SBA, and the user plane is designed as an independent UPF network function, and the control plane is further subdivided into various network functions. One or more UPF Network Functions can be deployed as required. The deployment location is planned based on service traffic. The UPF can be deployed in a centralized manner or distributed on the edge. While reducing transmission pressure, the CUPS solution can meet the requirements for large bandwidth and low latency in the 5G era.
